about
When We Dance is the first foray into songwriting for multi-instrumentalist Shaun McLachlan, better known as the percussionist in acclaimed Edinburgh band Delta Mainline.
The song was written and recorded in East Lothian, Scotland during lockdown 2020 with the help of long-term friend and musician Gavin King. It’s a very personal song and showcases Shaun's love of melodies and vintage synths to create a lovely slice of dream pop.
Guest appearances come from: Ian Sloan (The Wynntown Marshals) on pedal steel, Andrew Taylor (Dropkick), percussion, David McLachlan (Delta Mainline), guitar, Bruce Michie, brass, Pippa Reid-Foster, harp, and Reuben Taylor (Mersault), on accordion, all of whom helped create a heartfelt, rich, warm, epic and dynamic wall of sound - all recorded separately from their own homes.
Mixing and Mastering duties come courtesy of David McCaulay (From Scotland with Love) and Simon Scott (Slowdive) respectively.
All proceeds from the digital download will be donated to the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
lyrics
Sittin’ around a damp campfire, With sparks that don’t exist,
Flesh eaten wounds they don’t hurt, Yet those pressures still persist.
All I can say is rest your sweet, sweet hand on my heavy weary soul........
Blessed or sinned, don’t take your pick,
I’ve seen enough, I’ve seen that blood run thick, The darkness will turn into fire,
I don’t know when but god loves a trier.....
All I can say is rest your sweet, sweet hand on my heavy weary soul, All I can say is rest your sweet, sweet hand on my heavy weary soul.
When we dance, those angels will dance too,
There’s nothing else that matters, if it ain’t for me and you. When we dance, those angels will dance too.
Those wings they may be broken, but I know they’ll see us through.
